Event Recap: Tampa Chillounge & Ecofest

With cupcake season coming to an end, we finished the schedule with two great events. First waso ne of our favorite events, the Tampa Chillounge. On Saturday, April 5th, 2014 from 7pm until midnight, we passed out complimentary mini cupcakes in the VIP section.

This is a spectacular location, and always so much fun to attend, and introduce our delicious flavors to a great audience. Nestled inbetween all of the buildings in downtown Tampa, there are sights, tastes and sounds for everyone. I also always enjoy tasting beautiful treats from Victoria Richards Chocolates. They are quite a balance of beauty and tastiness. You *almost* don’t want to eat them, ha!

The second event is the 5th Annual Eco-Fest! EcoFest was held on Saturday, April 12th at the Lowry Park bandshell area. It was a great event filled with fun activities and tons of great vendors. I even got to enjoy a tasty orange cream Whatever Pop!

Cupcake Season Ends with 2 Amazing Events

About this time of the year in Florida, the heat is something we battle at every market event, and sometimes our little creations lose the fight. We will be ending our event season in April, but before we do that, we have 2 amazing local Tampa events. Go out with a bang, right?!

First will be one of our favorite events, the Tampa Chillounge. On Saturday, April 5th, 2014 from 7pm until midnight, we will be passing out complimentary mini cupcakes in the VIP section.

Curtis Hixon Park will once again transform into a magnificent outdoor lounge area with beautiful one of a kind furniture. Come and experience the ultimate outdoor lounge party.

What flavors will we have you ask? We will be featuring samples of our:

Drunk Bride – Vanilla almond cake, vanilla italian meringue buttercream, with whipped cream vodka added into the frosting. A flirty twist on a wedding cake combination.

S’More – Chocolate cake with graham cracker bottom, marshmallow frosting, topped with graham cracker dust.

Key Lime – Key lime cake, topped with a key lime cream cheese buttercream. A refreshing and sweet taste.

Blackberry Wine – Handcrafted blackberry wine preserve (made with blackberries and blackberry wine!) in the cake and buttercream. Quite the decadent treat.

The second event is the 5th Annual Eco-Fest! EcoFest will be held on Saturday, April 12th at the Lowry Park bandshell area – 7525 N. Boulevard, Tampa, Florida 33604. The event will be open to the public from 10:00 A.M. until 3:00 P.M. Admission to the event is free.

EcoFest 2014 is a community event organized by Learning Gate Community School, the City of Tampa and the USF Patel College of Global Sustainability to celebrate the many businesses, organizations, and individuals in the Tampa Bay area dedicated to the principles of sustainability – Ecology, Equity and Economy.

The flavors we will have for this event are:

Vegan Double Chocolate – Our chocolate cake, topped with a chocolate vegan buttercream.

Breakfast – Blueberry pancake cake, topped with a maple buttercream and a tiny donut!

Cookie Dough – Brown sugar cake, with a chocolate chip cookie dough ball inside, topped with raw (and safe) cookie dough buttercream. Quite a crowd favorite!

We will also be offering Angel Food slices with a side of berry compote. The angel food recipe we will be using will be Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free, Yeast-Free, Soy-Free, Corn-Free, Nut-Free. It will contain: egg whites, potato starch, arrowroot flour, granulated sugar, salt, cream of tartar, and vanilla. Only berries and minimal sugar will be used for the compote.

Cupping Cakes’ March Charity Cupcake

Here at Cupping Cakes, we like to make people happy through our little creations. We try and donate things where we can, and enjoy the great city we live in.

In that effort, we have created a new Monthly Special: the Charity Cupcake. Each month we will create a special flavor that will be available at all of our market events, and available to all specialty orders. Every time someone purchases this specific flavor cupcake, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to a local charity. Every month, we will work with a different charity, to spread awareness and help out where we can.

This great new Charity Cupcake special will start this March, and for our first local charity, Cupping Cakes has chosen: Big Cat Rescue, Tampa Florida!

BCRLogoHighResFor the entire month of March, Cupping Cakes will be donating proceeds from the sale.
March’s TIGER Charity Cupcake:

As a 4 star Charity Navigator rated 501 (c ) 3 organization we receive no government funds to support our operational and educational mission. We strive to build strong relationships with our public, business and civic partners. It is only by working “hand in hand” with like-minded friends such as yourself that the sanctuary is able to continue making a positive difference in both the animal as well as human world that we share.

Dilemma: Leftover Frosting!

9c5c3100945c11e3a1e80a50b3739fdc_8While some may say a bowl of leftover frosting is *NOT* a problem, when you bake cupcakes on a pretty regular basis, you’re bound to be in frosting overload.

While sitting down to a rom-com movie with a spoon and a bowl of frosting does sound like a winning combination, what if you want to share your overabundance or save it for later?

Don’t toss that buttercream! It will remain good in the refrigerator for 4-5 days. Alternatively, put it in an airtight container and freeze it up to 3 months. When ready to use again, take out of the freezer and place in the refrigerator overnight to thaw. Before you use it again, let the buttercream come to room temperature and give it a good stir before piling it on. (Thanks http://www.thekitchn.com)

Have a bowl of leftover cream cheese frosting? Why not whip up a quick recipe for Cinnamon Rolls?

Buttercream is essentially flavoring, butter and sugar – why not add a few little ingredients, and you have COOKIES! Who can deny frosting cookies?

Enjoy, Cupping Cakers!

February and Cupcakes go together like February and Cupcakes

2329triblk-w484h484z1-29208-i-am-one-of-the-few-people-who-looks-hot-eating-a-cupcakeFebruary is a fun month; it’s still got a nice chill to the air, and Valentine’s Day is right in the middle of the month. Everyone celebrates love a different way, even if you go to one of those fun “Luv Sux” parties, you’re celebrating in your own way.

I’d like to share my love for cupcakes with everyone this month!  February is already shaping up to be a fun one for us at Cupping Cakes. We have some great events in Carrollwood and Seminole Heights, and beyond. This is also the first month of our “Charity Cupcake” – where proceeds from the sale of our special flavor of the month is donated directly to a charity, and this month is The Spring.

To go along with the Charity Cupcake flavor of the month, which is our delicious chocolate cake, topped with a yummy vanilla purple-tinted buttercream, topped with an icing sunflower, we will have a few “Valentine’s Day” themed flavors.

Conversation Starter: Red Velvet cake, topped with cream cheese buttercream and a few conversation heart candies.

Va-Va-Vanilla: Vanilla cake topped with a vanilla buttercream and themed sprinkles.

Give Me A Kiss: Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Kiss inside the cake, chocolate buttercream and chocolate chip topper.

Wine & Dine: Brown sugar cake, filled with raspberry merlot jam topped with raspberry merlot swiss meringue buttercream.

This is not all! Keep checking with us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and our Event Schedule for more flavors and dates!

03cbd324d13d11e299af22000a9e29bc_7

– We make healthy substitutions that don’t sacrifice quality or taste. Did you know you can switch out the vegetable oil for apple sauce?
– We use local fruits in our batters, frostings, and fillings. Most of the jams we use are homemade in-house.
– One of the main ingredients in a red velvet cupcake is buttermilk – buttermilk is lower in fat than regular butter or whole milk and supplies vitamins and minerals. The cake also contains a small amount of cocoa – which we know is good for you in small doses.
– We have a handful of alternatives to traditional powdered sugar buttercream, healthier and just as delicious.
– Have an alternative food choice, like going gluten-free? Let us know and we can create a perfect treat for you.
– Save money by purchasing one cupcake from us, instead of a big container of processed snacks at the store. It’s a perfect sized treat!
– Want to help out others? Why not treat your employees or co-workers to a tasty cupcake one day?
– Need to motivate or reward yourself for a great week/month or meeting your goals? Why not a cupcake? It’s great for portion-control.
– All of our to-go containers are recyclable, and we also offer a reusable tote to take home.
– Manage stress by rewarding yourself at an end of a tough week!
– Want to take a day-trip or maybe go on a walk with friends? Cupcakes are great for outdoor events, since it’s very easy cleanup.
